What to do right after
A short checklist that protects your claim.
At the scene
- Report it to a manager or owner and ask for an incident report.
- Photograph the hazard, the area and your injuries.
- Get names and phone numbers of witnesses and employees.
- Keep your shoes and clothes as they are.
After
- Get medical care and follow through.
- Don’t give a recorded statement to the owner’s insurer.
- Write down what happened while it’s fresh.
- Call a lawyer early so video can be preserved.
Dog bites: also call animal control and get the dog’s owner and vaccination information.
